ABOUT SVYDNIA
The Mountain Retreat is situated in Svydnia. Svydnia is a small village in the Balkan mountains overlooking the Iskar Gorge and is situated 5 kilometers from the town of Svoge and 40 kilometers from Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. The village has two Café/Bars , two Supermarkets, a Post Office and a Church. There is also a war memorial in the centre of the village. A river can be found running through the village, it is in a very peaceful location either walking along or just sitting near and watching the time go by. The beautiful church pictured is located leading up to the mountain retreat, there are a number of memorial sites located in the village.
ABOUT SVOGE
The nearest town is the town of Svoge. Svoge is just 5 kilometers from Svydnia and is easily accessible via taxi or bus. The town of Svoge has a choice of Shops, a Supermarket, several Restaurants and Bars and a daily Market. and In the centre of Svoge the Railway Station can be found, with a good service into the capital (Sofia). Svoge is the home of Bulgarian Chocolate and evidence of this can be found in all the shops in Svoge. Out and about there is an outdoor swimming complex and an Archaeological Museum and several Childrens play areas.
ABOUT SOFIA
Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, and boasts a population of 1,250,000, Sofia is linked by international routes with the capitals of Europe, and via Istanbul and Ankara, with the Middle East. Sofia’s motto is: “Ever Growing, Never Ageing”.
Sofia is situated just 40km from Syvdnia and is easily accessable via, car, bus, train or taxi and is definately worth a visit.
Whether it's day or night the centre is always buzzing. There are lots of shops both on the fashionable Vitosha Boulevard which is situated in the heart of Sofia and runs along the side of the centre and also in the centre and surrounding streets. There are several parks in and around Sofia which makes it a favourite with kids, there is also an outdoor swimming complex close to the centre. Sofia Land is well worth a visit, it is the Bulgarian version of Alton Towers with the Bulgarian prices! Sofia also boasts the following must see sights: The National Palace of Culture, The Russian Church of Saint Nicholas, The Central Mineral Bath, Bulgaria's National Art Gallery and The National Opera to name but a few.
